C.O.R.E.
C.O.R.E.’s mission is to share community theatre by performing at a variety of shows throughout the Triad. Venues include retirement homes, service clubs, civic events, and community festivals.
KLT’s Community Out Reach Entertainers seeks new volunteers of all ages. Don’t worry if you do not have any experience. The program offers novice and seasoned performers the opportunity to develop and expand their talent, build self-confidence and experience first-hand through the joy of performing in front of a live audience.
A performance normally lasts for one hour. It is set in a variety show format, with short skits and songs.
A big plus for C.O.R.E. is that it’s flexible. Actors are not required to commit long term. Performers may rotate involvement depending on their schedule.
Trish Forbes currently heads up C.O.R.E. Trish is responsible for getting material, setting show schedules and rehearsals.
In mid-2011, C.O.R.E. is in the middle of its third season (each season runs roughly from April through October). If C.O.R.E. sounds like a program you would like to a part of, contact Trish Forbes at forbes2301@yahoo.com, or the KLT office (993-6556).
“One of the best things about C.O.R.E. is its flexibility. The actors may participate as their time allows. You pick from scheduled shows that suit your calendar. Plus, you do not have to be a performer to be a part of C.O.R.E. We are in need of those who work behind the scenes. For instance, C.O.R.E. can always use someone to gather props and costumes, or to work the sound equipment.” - C.O.R.E. founder Myla O'Brien
“Being with C.O.R.E. has been a great opportunity to give back to the community. It's also a great opportunity for me and others to nurture our own talents, watch those talents bloom, and then share our talents with the community. It’s also a way to experience what it's like to work as part of a team and enhance each other’s talents. What a joy!” - C.O.R.E. volunteer Barbara Morris
“I get an incredible amount of satisfaction to see how, just showing the audience that someone is interested in them, makes them happy.” - C.O.R.E. volunteer George Stanton
“CORE has provided me with an opportunity to be an actress, singer and musician - with a wonderful group of individuals that truly enjoy entertaining people both young and old.” - C.O.R.E. volunteer Diane Dull
“To see the joy on the faces of our audiences makes it all worthwhile. Especially when we perform for those who cannot get out to see live entertainment. I am proud to be able to help put that smile on their faces.” - C.O.R.E. volunteer Jim Lehman
